First Grade Policies
Birthdays
Please notify the teacher at least 2 days in advance. Please remember that we do our best to accommodate your request, but due to scheduling we will have to inform you of the best date to send your store bought treats in. We will have a summer birthday celebration for all students that have June, July and August birthdays. This will take place at the end of May.
Discipline
IHM has a Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. The goal of the program is to recognize the positive expected behaviors regarding the 3 R’s: Respect, Responsible, and Ready. In first grade, each teacher has their own classroom behavior program. The program is aligned with the school’s PBIS. (Refer to page 23 in school handbook.)
Homework
Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. Parents are asked to check homework for neatness and accuracy, and parents should sign all homework. A normal night’s homework should take no longer than a half hour. If this becomes a problem, please notify the teacher. PLEASE READ THE MISSED HOMEWORK POLICY on page 34 of Student Handbook.
Lunch
Hot lunch begins on Monday 9/. All lunch money needs to be sent in a sealed envelope/baggie with your child’s name and lunch choice. The money should be placed in the front pocket of their binder.
Library
We visit the library once a week. The student’s book is due back the following week. Late books incur a fine of 25 cents for each week they are late.
Medicine/Nurse
If your child needs any type of medication administered at school, you must take it to the school nurse. If your child is sick, especially with a fever, he/she must stay at home until they have been fever free for at least 24 hours without medication. The nurse does not administer over-the-counter medication to first graders unless it is an emergency.
Parent/Student Handbook
All additional school policies, procedures and rules can be found in the handbook.
We are looking forward to an exciting year of growth and learning! Please contact us with any concerns or questions.
